1-1/2"-8 Tap For South Bend, Atlas, 9" Lathe Chuck Or Face Plate Nos Us-made

US $2200

This a brand new 1-1/2 x 8tpi 6-flute bottoming tap made by Greenfield Tap & Die in Massachusetts, USA. This tap is the size and geometry needed for making and repairing tooling to fit the 1.5x8 threaded spindle found on smaller South Bend, Atlas and Logan lathes. This is a great accessory to have with a South Bend 9" or 10k lathe as it allows the owner to touch up the the threads on existing faceplates and chuck back plates to keep them clean and accurate and thereby protect the spindle threads from wear and damage. It also allows one to easily make new back plates when needed. It is often less expensive to purchase tooling with 1" threaded mounts which can then be bored and threaded to fit a 1-1/2-8 spindle. The tap itself is a beautiful American made tool. Very few US manufacturers make these today, and the retail cost for a tap of this quality is well north of $200.  The tap you will receive is brand new and un-used and still has the protective wax on it from factory. The tap comes with its original box. The bare tap used in some of the photos was unpacked for photographing and is being kept with my own South Bend lathe. Please note the lathe and other tools in some of the photos are not included in this auction and are not for sale separately---they were included for scale and context. This auction is for one tap only.
