This is a very early Chicago-era No. 3 Wilton vise with 3 inch jaws. Date on key way is clearly stamped September 1946. This is a straight and true vintage vise that is all original parts with the exception of a hand hammered copper end cap. It has no breaks or welds and was recently refinished. The anvil portion was also re-milled flat. Many folks prefer the number 3 over the Baby Bullet as you can do all the same things with the No. 3 and it gives a little more weight and stability. You can do very fine work on these since they are so precise and, in this example, jaws line up perfectly.  It's is great for most garage projects. Many of the vices from this era have frozen screws and you cannot remove the jaws. In this case, all the screws are free and jaws remove easily, attesting to the easy life it has had. It's a beautiful example and they are very popular with collectors because of the build quality. The vise was completely stripped and refinished with Rustoleum Hammered Gray paint. It looks fantastic with the copper end-cap as a vintage vise that has been dressed up for modern use. There are a few normal wear/handling marks visible around the jaws, but otherwise it is a really fine example. This one has a very smooth movement. Tolerances are extremely close so this vise works perfectly with little play.  Wilton craftsmanship in this example is amazing.
