4 inch / 100 mm Cast Iron Cross Slide Vise by White Dog & AJ Wholesale Dist. Ex+ Clamps work tight for easy yet careful position adjustment Support a no-kill animal shelter by giving this "White Dog" a second chance with this charity auction :) Close to new.  But this is an inexpensive metalworking tool.  It is strong, but not very precise.  There is a little noticeable play in the screw drives.  The finish is not very even and the lubrication is not very smooth.  The effect of my use has been to get some little metal shavings stuck to it with thick cutting oil that has turned gummy.  Not a lot - I cleaned most off - and not as much as will generally get on it soon in normal use.  But unpack it in the shop area.  You will need to attach the cross-sliding knobs with nuts.  (Both are included.)  You may want to make it "better than new" by degreasing and relubricating it as described online. The "4 inch" size refers to the width of each of the jaws.  The jaws open to about four inches apart, too.  The cross-slide has an adjustment range of a bit less, perhaps three inches, in the "vertical" and "horizontal" directions. These are often promoted for mounting to drill presses.  It can be mounted to a drill press, but may be too low if mounted to a bench-top press's stand and too high for ordinary "jobber" length wider drill bits if mounted to the bench-top press's usual work table which can adjust down only so far.  Stubby bits are available.  And the mounting points that may be desired for the most useful location of the adjustment range may not correspond to the mounting holes or slots already in the table or base.  The vise does have a few alternative mounting notches.  Bolts or similarly sturdy fasteners to mount it are required but not included. A cross-slide vise (or anything else) should not be used to "mill" on a drill press by driving work sideward into a bit.  A milling machine (or mill-drill) is not just a drill press with a special cutter and a way to move the work sideways: the mechanism is constructed differently to handle lateral forces. Right here in the USA - much faster than ordering from China.  If you're elsewhere, I can probably ship it to you, but ordering something direct from China would probably be cheaper and better.
