Note to ebay: This is not a hazardous material. These are pebbles, small rocks, not unlike those pesky ones that get stuck in your shoe and bug you for like five hours until you finally give in and go through the ordeal of removing it. This item is shipped in compliance with USPS Publication 52, and is a natural mineral specimen, as it is clearly defined in 49 CFR 173.426. Now: the item! This is a nice chunk of uraninite which has a surprisingly high alpha and low energy beta emission, with relatively low gamma. It's safe to tote around in a trunk if standard mineral collecting guidelines are followed. It has a variety of colors; including one area which is presumably iron oxide where it looks blood red when wet... I thought it was pretty neat when I was washing this little batch. Here are the spectral stats: 44-9 equivalent probe (Bicron PGM in this case; it uses the same tube and has the same geometry as the Ludlum 44-9 industry standard) 54,000 counts per minute. HP-270 Probe (updated version of the CDV 700 probe!) with beta window open (housings differ in thickness quite a bit, so it makes sense to use beta window open for a standard: 2800 CPM. In order to maintain a scientifically valid system of measurement; I will provide all information needed to accurately reproduce the result. I use a new LND-725 probe, which is the modern equivalent to the old CDV 700 probe as well, to give an estimate of activity that your probe will likely measure on properly functioning equipment; although it may vary substantially. I am a rather interactive seller, so please don't hesitate to ask if your readings are super high or low. The 44-9 and HP-270 probes are both industry standards, which is why I use them. In circumstances where the specimen warrants measurement with other probes, I will do so. I avoid scintillation probes due to their voltage-dependent inconsistencies; although I will always list loaded voltage if I do use a voltage dependent probe. The GM probes are run at 870-930 Volts. That's it, folks. Thanks for looking! Please see my other items. I list everything from novice hobbyist equipment to professional-grade (and certified for regulatory use in some cases) equipment. Now, the obligatory regulatory stuff: This item will be sent in compliance with guidelines specified in USPS Publication 52, and will be shipped in a manner compliant with 49 CFR 173.426. This item is safe when mineral handling precautions (for ALL minerals are taken. AGAIN, This item will be sent 100% in compliance with all federal regulations and requirements. By bidding on this auction, I certify: a. Agree to hold eBay Inc. harmless in the extremely unlikely event that ANY damages occur as a result of purchase or use of this item. b. I understand that deliberately breaking these plates is both dangerous and illegal (easily interpreted legally under three different federal statutes); and that I will not alter, modify, ingest, extract any quantity of any actual or potentially regulated substance contained in this item. The item will be left intact, as sold, and will be stored in a safe and appropriate manner. I will abide by safety rules if the are applicable. c. Assure that these items will be used for their intended purpose. d. I am willing to abide by these rules with 100% compliance should I decide to transfer or resell the item, regardless of whether or not the item is sold on eBay Inc. or any other sellers venue. Geiger counter/scaler/metric equipment is not included, obviously. Please research precautions regarding uranium minerals. USPS will be used for shipping most of the time, although I reserve the right to change carriers. Priority mail is used most of the time, although an item will be sent First Class if it qualifies. That's to keep it on the ground, rather than as a cost-saving measure. I do get items bounced back to me for no apparent reason sometimes; but that's probably because there is a huge scintillator array at the local postal sorting center. If that happens, I will notify you and re-ship. I do not advertise or sell items which require special labeling on this site. Thanks so much and enjoy! stock number 5773
