Power Transformer, 120VAC Primary, 8VAC Secondary, 150ma Chassis Mount, This Purchase is for 1 each Transformer Body Dimensions: 38mm x 35mm x 32mm (From Mounting Tab to Mounting Tab: 59mm) My supplier said these were removed from new equipment that had been in storage for a very long time under less than ideal conditions. So although new and unused, these don't look like brand new transformers. In fact some of them look a little like they've had slight exposure to the elements but all the ones I've tested and sold have been just fine. If you've built many electronic projects having 5V Regulators, you too have no doubt had the problem of the 5V regulator running much hotter than is good for it. The problem stems from the fact that the 12V transformer you've used forces the regulator to drop all that excess voltage across itself. And since the Power dissipated by the regulator is the product of it's Voltage drop x the Current through it, the extra voltage is has to deal with is the KILLER. This transformer solves that problem. Eight volts AC rectified by a full wave bridge rectifier, filtered, and applied to the input of a 3-Terminal Regulator is the perfect solution in keeping that regulator running cool as possible.
