Advanced Quality Systems of Boeing, Ford and ITT This package is a compilation of statistical manuals that I have collected over my engineering career in the quest to minimize variation in manufacturing processes. Whether you have an understanding of Advanced Quality Systems or not the information contained in this package will help you understand statistics and help you make better statistical decisions. The manuals are an excellent introduction to Advanced Quality Systems from Boeing, Ford, ITT and the University of Michigan.   They are an excellent supplement to the executive, engineer or business man to increase your understanding of statistical analysis and statistical reasoning. In fact you may say that the manuals are a guide that presents a series of structured hands on learning sessions and provides a broad-based introduction to this field of study. The manuals are from the late 80’s and early 90’s but are still very much relevant in today’s competitive world. The entire package will make an excellent addition to your business library.   Start with Boeings “Advanced Quality System” manual used by Boeing Suppliers to supply components/parts to Boeing as per the methodology required by D1-9000.  This methodology can be used in any other manufacturing environment to statistically control the product process and environment. The manual has detailed tutorial instructions on such topics as key characteristics, statistical control, capability and other sources of variation to control the production of your product.  It is an excellent reference in your quest for answers on how to build a perfect product.     TITLE:                BOEING-Advanced Quality System-D1-9000 (AQS) OBJECTIVE:    This manual describes the AQS tools, methodology and documentation that are required to build parts for Boeing to D1-9000. D1-9000 is the regulatory standard for aerospace industry requirements. It is also a comprehensive manual explains the Basic Quality System, Advance Quality System, AQS Tools and Supplier Quality Rating System. Included in this manual is Statistical Quality Control Version 5.3 (SQC) copyrighted 1990. This black and white manual (149 pages) covers the following subjects: Attribute Files, Variable Files, Advanced Process Control and Design of Experiments. Please note that the 5.25 “ or  3.5” floppy disks are not available or included. However this manual is extremely valuable discussing the above subjects. Also included in this manual is Process Control and Capability (D6-55596-01TN). This black and white document (14 pages) covers a statistical approach for Defect Reduction and Process Improvement. Finally included in this manual is Key Characteristics (D6-55596 TN). This black and white document (48 pages) covers The First Steps to Advanced Quality. CONDITION:    This is a three (3) ring binder developed by Boeing. This manual and the three included documents have been read but are in excellent condition. There is very little cover wear,  binding is tight! No obvious damage to the hardcover. No missing or damaged pages, there are no tears. There is no underlining of text or writing in the margins.  There is no highlighting.  Overall the manual are in excellent and readable condition.   Next is FORD’s Continuing Process Control and Process Capability Improvement manual.  This is an excellent adjunct to the above Boeing Manual described above.  It emphasizes the “hands on “ aspects of an Advanced Quality System.  The manual includes discussion on FORDS 14 Operating Principles for never-ending Improvement in Quality and Productivity   TITLE:                FORD-Continuing Process Control and Process Capability Improvement (1983). OBJECTIVE:    This black and white manual (63 pages) is a guide to the use of Control Charts for Improving Quality and Productivity for Company, Supplier and Dealer Activities.  It starts with an Introduction to Statistical Control and proceeds to cover Control Charts for Variables and Attributes. The appendix covers FORDS 14 Operating Principles for never-ending Improvement in Quality and Productivity, describes the AQS tools, methodology and documentation that are required to build parts for FORD per automotive industry requirements. CONDITION:    This is a three (3) ring binder developed by FORD. This manual has been read but is in excellent condition. There is very little wear.  There is no obvious damage.  No missing or damaged pages, there are no tears. There is no underlining of text or writing in the margins.  There is no highlighting.  Overall the manual are in excellent and readable condition.   Since ITT was a supplier of product to both BOEING and FORD it was imperative to have mastered the Advanced Quality Systems that both companies demanded.  ITT worked especially diligently with FORD to formula this manual.   TITLE:                ITT- Statistical Process Control OBJECTIVE:    This black and white manual (222 pages) describes Variation, X-bar and R Control Charts, Other variable Charts, Process Capability, Attributes Control Charts, Interpretation, Improvement techniques and implementation. The materials contained in this manual are heavily based on or obtained from the FORD Motor Company for the purpose of expanding the SPC program within ITT. (See above manual). This manual presents AQS tools, methodology and documentation that are required for aerospace industry requirements. CONDITION:    This is a three (3) ring binder developed by ITT.  The manual is missing the plastic binder that holds the manual together. This manual has been read but the pages are in good condition. There is very little wear. There is no obvious damage. There is no missing, damaged pages or tears. There is some underlining of text and writing on pages or on examples.  There is no highlighting. Overall the manual are in good and readable condition.   It was a very fundamental fact that senior executives from BOEING/FORD/ITT have an understanding of the essentials of an Advanced Quality System and the real world questions to ask in order to make competitive decisions.  Here is an opportunity to get a structured “hands on” learning experience that provides a broad-based introduction to this field of study.   4             TITLE:                World Class Competitive Leadership Strategies for Senior Executives OBJECTIVE:    This is a self-study course presented by University of Michigan’s office for The Study of Automotive Transportation and American Supplier Institute (1988 ASI Press) and is based on a one day seminar presented jointly by Ralph Reins, Chief Executive, ITT Automotive, W.E. Scollard, VP Manufacturing Operations, Ford Motor Company and David P. Williams, President, C.O.D., The Budd Company. The course also comes with a Study Guide and 4 cassettes (8 sides of information). Strategies for senior executives have changed to recognize the fact that industry is not in any shape or form, static. We now know that CHANGE is an important characteristic of the future of business. It also recognizes that it is an all–inclusive competitive environment with the world. This course explores the elements industry must change to be competitive with the world. CONDITION:    This is a three (3) ring binder with 4 audio tapes developed by American Supplier Institute, Inc.  The manual and the 4 tapes have been used but are in very good condition. There is very little cover wear, binding is tight! No obvious damage to the hardcover. No missing or damaged pages, there are no tears. There is no underlining of text or writing in the margins.  There is no highlighting.  Overall the manual and tapes are in excellent condition.   ALSO INCLUDED ARE THE FOLLOWING   There is nothing like some good background when talking about this subject. Although most of the following material may be outdated, they present you with from the early history in the field. The following material is located in the FORD binder.   TITLE:            Study of SPC on BKA Seried Machined on Acroloc # 3 TITLE:            Capability Study on Cray WIP Rotary Molding TITLE:            DoD STD 2000 Cost Savings through Process Control by Joseph H Bell.             TITLE:            Quality Times by The Institute for Professional Engineers TITLE:            EIA-557 Statistical Process Control Systems by Electronic Industries Association standard TITLE:            SP-2133 as an EIA Standard-General Standard on Statistical Process Systems by Electronic Industries Association standard TITLE:            Statistical Methods for Improving Performance.
