The unit measures insulation resistance from 0 to 1,000 Megaohms using a 1,000V direct current (DC) test voltage. It also has a low-resistance range that measures from 0 to 200 ohms with a 300mV DC test voltage. The test voltage is produced by a hand-cranked constant voltage generator, so the unit never needs batteries. A guard terminal prevents surface leakage from affecting the instrument's readings. The AMC-3 is designed for use by electricians and electrical contractors.
