Extremely Rare Early Edwardian Chester H'm Sterling Silver Mounted Cut Glass Ring Tree dated 1902 This Extremely Rare Edwardian Ring Tree or Jewellery Stand measures approximately 3 1/8 inches or 79 mm across the width or diameter of its base from side to side by 1 1/8 inches or 29 mm across the widest part of its tree from the end of one branch across to the other and it stands 2 7/8 inches or 73 mm tall to the top of its central tree. The ring tree or jewellery stand is made from clear glass with a circular base that has an external hob nail and star like cut decoration and it has a clear glass 3 branch tree in the center of its circular base, the the top edge of the circular base has a solid sterling silver mounted rim and the ring tree or jewellery stand has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, the outer rim has been impressed with a full set of English solid sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, W.R - Lion Passant - Three Wheat Sheaves - stylized B W.R is the Sheffield silversmith or makers mark of William Redfern whose mark is recorded as being used from 1902, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard solid sterling silver, the Three Wheat Sheaves is the mark of the Chester assay office and the stylized letter B is the assay office date letter for 1902. The rarity of this Early Edwardian sterling silver cut glass mounted ring tree is not just that it has survived for over 110 years without being chipped or cracked but also in the fact that it has been impressed with a Chester hallmark, the Chester assay office was closed down in 1962 and pieces that bare this mark have become harder to find as they are more desirable to the serious collector. The Condition is Used and Near Mint for its age. This Early Edwardian Sterling Silver Mounted Cut Glass Ring Tree has No Chips and No Cracks in its glass body, it has No Large Dents, No Chips, No Cracks, No Holes in its sterling silver rim and it has No Repairs that I can find, the ring tree stands upright, the decoration is very crisp, the Chester sterling silver hallmark is still legible although as this Rare early Edwardian ring tree is a used antique it does have the odd small shallow dent within its silver rim and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think this rare early Edwardian silver mounted cut glass ring tree or jewellery stand can still used today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet or dressing table collection, I also think that it looks absolutely fantastic considering that it's over 110 years old.
