1st pic shows the advantage of the clean-taper splice verses the standard sewn splice.  There's no notch to get caught on any hardware as you climb and it lies neater against the pulley.  They're all I use.  I make them w a tight eye that stays put on the carabiner.  I think about 30" is ideal for a hitch-climber pulley system but i can make them any length you want.
