It runs on two "C" cell batteries(not included). It has been tested as described below and is guaranteed not DOA. TEST/INSPECTION OF SALE CONTENTS: Test: I pulled back the syringe plunger, turned on, and seleted rate 1 flow rate. The plunger was fully depressedand alarm sounded and sounded when complete. I repeated this test when set on rate 2 and cycle was completed with a corresponding alarm as well. The alarm mute button works. Nothing unusual noticed. Guaranteed not DOA. Inspection:This pump is in excellent cosmetic condition. Very clean with normal/minimal signs of previous use including: a few small stains, scuffs, and scratches. Please study pictures.
