Against the mite Varroa destructor up to 99,9% efficacy. Varostop are veneer strips, on which the active substance Flumethrin is laid on. Flumethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid , what has contact acaricide effect against the mite Varroa destructor and doesn’t make adverse reactions on the bees, the brood and the queen. The strips are put/hung down/ among the frames. When crawling on them, the bees take on their bodies/ limbs, pili, wings/ from the active substance and carry it around all over the hive through their social behavior.Minimum quantity of the active substance is necessary to destroy the mites. Varostop® - strips is developed and produced by Primavet – Sofia in the conditions of Good Manufacturing Practice /GMP/ as per ISO 9000-2008 Standard taking into account the biological features of the bee families and the ones of the acarus Varroa destructor. One strip contains 3.6 mg of synthetic pyrethroid – flumethrin. It has high acaricide effect up to 100%. The clinical tests in Turkey in the autumn of 2009 showed that Varostop was a very good option to fight varroatosis in bee families /Girisgin and Audin/. Found out was the 94.4% efficiency of Varostop against the tick Varroa. After 10 years of use of Varostop in Bulgaria, some tests to determine its efficiency were made. Ecostop and Perizin were used as controls. Summarizing the results for the efficiency as received in the spring-autumn testing, it was confirmed that Varostop showed over 98% efficiency and met the requirements of the European Union concerning the acaricides. The average values of the efficiency of Varostop in the test groups were much more that the required ones within the limits 98.12 ± 0.29% to 94.47 ± 0.12%. These data show that after 10 years of use, Varostop is still the most efficient product against Varroa destructor and is the most proper to fight varroatosis in Bulgaria. The results obtained give reasons for the statement, that Varroa destructor in the apiaries on the territory of Bulgaria has not become resistant to the product. /K. Gurgulova, Assoc.
