THE BEE-KEEPERS TEXT BOOK _______     WITH ALPHABETICAL INDEX, BEING A COMPLETE REFERENCE BOOK   1870 EDITION ~ N. H. & H. A. KING ~ J.A. KING & CO. OF NEW YORK   ******************************************************     This volume is complete with an alphabetical Index, being a COMPLETE REFERENCE BOOK  on all practical subjects connected with the culture of the HONEY BEE IN BOTH COMMON AND MOVABLE-COMB HIVES, giving minute directions for the MANAGEMENT OF BEES IN EVERY MONTH OF THE YEAR and illustrating the NUCELUS SYSTEM OF SWARMING AND ITALIAN QUEEN REARING.   Per the preface, "The successful cultivation of the honey bee, depends upon a correct knowledge of the laws by which the economy of the hive is regulated; comply with these laws and you reap a golden harvest - disregard them and disappointment and loss are the certain result."   THIS BOOK COMPRISES THREE SUBJECT MATTERS:   1)     A KNOWLEDGE OF THESE LAWS   2)     INSTRUCTION HOW TO COMPLY WITH THEIR REQUIREMENTS   3)     CAUTION AGAINST THEIR VIOLATION   To accomplish this, the authors have endeavored to bring the language within comprehension of the man of limited education and means, to whom bee keeping commends itself on account of its large pecuniary returns for the capital and attention required. Additionally, the wished to present the PRACTICAL PART of the subject fully and yet briefly, believing that condensation, to the greatest possible extend consistent with a full exposition of the subject, not only diminishes the cost but increases the value of a work of this kind.   Excellent expert references have been consulted in the apiary science, aided by the writings of Huber, Bevan, Dzierzon, Quinby, Harbison, Langstroth, Miner, Metcalf, Wagner, and many others, both ancient and during the late 1800's.  With the passing of time, improvements and advanced technology caused revisions to this subject.  This book embraces those latest discoveries and improvements in beekeeping during 1870.   In today's 21st Century, Bee Keeping is as popular as ever! Although there are expert books on the current market, the references made go back to the "old days".  There are 7 CHAPTERS  that cover the following copious subjects:   PHYSIOLOGY OF BEES   NATURAL SWARMING   BEE PASTURAGE AND PRODUCTS   ARTIFICIAL AND NUCLEUS SWARMING   ITALIAN BEES AND QUEEN REARING   THE APIARY   HIVES   ALPHABETICAL INDEX   H.A. King has perhaps done more than any other man in America in calling the attention of the masses to the importance of improved bee culture. His American Hive in its different forms has, been used more extensively than any other.  The Bee keepers Journal commenced in 1868 with a circulation of two thousand copies, at one time, ran up to near thirty thousand.     N. H. King  who was one of the real pioneers of scientific bee keeping and to him the intensely practical character of this book is due. In 1875,  H. A  King retired permanently from the bee business to engage more fully in preaching the Gospel and in the dissemination of religious literature.   CONDITION OF BOOK: This book is in  GOOD CONDITION for its age, especially to be 145 YEARS OLD!  There are 140 pages in this 5" X 6 1/2" volume.
