Bullnose Live Center for UNIMAT SL DB Lathes - from LatheCity Purpose of that tool Live center for model work. In contrast to dead centers, live centers don’t need cutting oil and rotate with the work piece in order to machine delicate parts. The steel live center has one bearing. The center is tool steel. The live center with M12-1.0 threads fits to the UNIMAT SL DB tailstock. Ideal to work on delicate parts, wood, or plastics since little friction is generated. In particular a bull nose live center is used to work on tubing or all parts that cannot be turned by a standard pin end live center.   Size and details The bearings we use have an outer diameter (O.D.) of 1/2” and an inner shaft diameter of 3/16”. A tool steel bull nose shaped pin is pressed in the bearings. The front end is flat and has a diameter of 3/16" the bank end diameter of the nose is 1/2", taper angle approx. 60 deg. The bearing is mounted in a steel adapter that has metric M12 threads to fit an UNIMAT SL DB. The entire accessory has a total length of only ~1.5 with largest O.D. of 3/4”. The body is 1" long + 0.5 for the bull nose end. The live center was tested up to 2800 RPM on a UNIMAT SL DB mini lathe. The bearing is self-lubricated and sealed.               Included: One M12-1.0 bull nose live center, this manual, and a safety booklet.               Safety Notes, Trouble Shooting, and Disclaimer: General safety rules for machine/power tools are in place. For an extended list of safety notes, consult the literature or go to our website. You can download free of charge a safety booklet, which is also typically included (free of charge) for first-time customers. Use protective closing including, most importantly, safety glasses for metal work. Use accessory for light lathe work on miniatures. Max RPM 2800 Broken bearing may result in the front pin getting stuck in the work piece which can in turn over heat. In that case, switch off the lathe, cool down work piece, and replace cooled down bearing. Note that bearings are not designed to take large side forces. Note also that no life center will be as ridged as a dead center pin. We do not warrant that any accessories can be used for any particular application.
