CIBA Corning 278 Blood Gas System This blood gas analyzer has three bottles labelled 7.382 Cal, 6.8 Slope and Wash on the front. There's also a waste collection bottle. A two-line alphanumeric LED display at the top has three multifunction buttons along the bottom and "up" and "forward" buttons next to it. There's also a thermal printer that takes 2.5" wide paper with a numeric keypad below it. Behind a removable panel is a set of electrode chambers labelled pO2, pCO2, pH and Ref. The lower portion of the front has a peristaltic pump, a sample inlet aperture, and two chambers labelled "slope" and "cal"; it appears that this area also had a removable magnetic panel but it is not included. On the back of the unit are three 25-pin female D connectors labelled 1-3, a 5-pin keyboard connector, and a 6-pin barcode reader connector. The unit comes with a power cord. When plugged in the unit starts up and runs through an electrode chamber wash procedure. The wash valve opens, the pump runs, and it appears that there's suction through the system, but no wash reached the electrode module during our few attempts. There's a built-in troubleshooting function that suggested some tubing might require flushing with water. Both LED display and printer functioned perfectly.
