This Clifton 400 shoulder rebate plane is a delicate plane with a fine mouth that will cut fine shavings for precision work. The body is machined from quality grey iron casting, accurately machined and precision ground on the sole and sides. The cutting iron seats smoothly onto the machined pads, and fits snugly into the body of the plane and held is by a Rosewood wedge. Adjustment of the cutting iron is done in the traditional manner by tapping the end of the cutting iron and locking the Rosewood wedge in place. The finish is Bright ground and all edges have been rounded over to fit comfortably in the hand. The plane body is 7/16” (11mm) wide by 3 1/8” (80mm) long. The cutter is made from high quality oil hardened tool steel Hardened to Rockwell 'C' 59-61. The cutting edge is ground to 25 degrees and with a 30 degree secondary bevel.
