Has card stock covers with an original pasted-on wraparound which has the appearance of being extensively spotted, but was, apparently, intentionally produced that way, probably to imitate candle wax ? All interior pages are clean, bright, and tight. Ownership entry in pencil inside front & back covers. First Edition of the English Translation by Nelli E. Lutz, Edited by Lloyd M. Swan of the first book (of three) of this early work on metals and alchemy. With facsimiles of the Frankfurt 1557 edition title-page and recommendation to the printer Egenolph by Melanchthon. The book is a beautifully reproduced keepsake of the original 1557 first book written by Salveldensis. It is printed on laid paper and includes the reproduction of the original title page and the first two pages. It also includes an interesting introduction, then the translations about the metals gold, sulfur, quicksilver, silver, crude silver (red), crude silver, crude and black silver, silver spume, brass or copper, pyrite, cadmia, and different coppers. A wonderful and exceedingly rare, little book. Apparently had something to do with the War effort at that time, and saving all possible metal for military use. Have seen only one other for sale, and it was X-Library. Selling as is.
