ELECTRO CONVULSOMETER Description The Electro-Convulsometer is the instrument used for applying maximal Electro shock (MES) through the corneal electrodes activity with the instrument. It is used to study the anticonvulsant activity of phonation against maximal electro shock induced convulsions in rats. The instrument contains manual voltage corrector so that a constant current can be applied to the mice or the corneal electrode. The control panel is properly designed for easy to use and is self explanatory. The shock period can be controlled with the help of electronic timer from 0.1 seconds to 3 seconds. The instrument is provided with three sets of cornels electrodes of different sizes. Operating Instruments: 1. Insert the main cord into the mains plug and the plug provided on the rear side of the instrument. 2. Switch the instrument ‘ON’ with the help of switch marked with ‘MAINS 230v AC’ on the front panel. 3. Voltmeter provided on the panel starts indicating the mains voltage after switching the instrument ‘ON’ and the ‘MAINS ON’ indicator starts glowing. 4. The mains voltage can be adjusted from 200 V to 240 V with the help of ADJ knob. The has been provided to set the desired input mains voltage so the desired stimuli output may be available at the output terminals. This is basically a manual voltage corrector. 5. The instrument is also provided with a timer which gets powered as soon as the instrument is switched on. The stimulus output at output terminals is available only for the set time. On can set time from 01 Sec to 3 Sec with the help of ‘Seconds’ knob. The stimulus is available at the output terminals by pressing the STARTS switch. 6. When the start switch is pressed the indicator above this switch lights up for the set duration of seconds. This indicates that the stimulus output is available at the output terminals. 7. Stimulus output current is also adjustable with the help of front panel controls marked with ma and Multiplier. One can very it according to the desired level or according tot eh experiment to be carried out. 8. When the mA control is either at position A or B the multiplier does not have any control over the stimulus available at the output at the terminals. In this position, current can be varied from 0.1 mA to 0.3mA in position A with the dial marking of 0.1, 0.15, 0.25 and 0.3mA in (inner circle). For this setting adjust the knob with plastic pointer in the inner circle meant for position A. 9. When the mA control is at B position, the current can be varied from 0.3 mA to 3mA with reference to outer circle having marketing as 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 1,2 and 3mA. 10. At other position of mA knob, one can vary current by using the multiplier control as desired. In this case the mA position i.e. 3, 6, 9 etc. has to be multiplier with the multiplier position e.g. when mA switch is at position 6 and the multiplier at position 2 then current is 6x2 i.e. 12mA. 11. After doing the necessary setting as per the requirement of the experiment, place the corneal electrodes on the cornea and apply the prescribed current and not the different stages of convulsions. Also note the time in seconds spent by the animal in each phase of the convulsions. Work on 220 volt only.......!! We can not ship the material to BRAZIL.......!
