This listing is for an Emeco Industries Eames Mid Century Modern Blue Vinyl Tandem Sling 2 Seater with Table. In very good condition, actually excellent condition since it is approx 65 years old. Very nice and clean from a smoke free environment. Free local pick up or freight arragements can be made, FOB Hanover PA. Made in Hanover PA by Emeco (Electric Machine and Equipment Company) a privately held company headquartered in Hanover, Pennsylvania Hanover, Pennsylvania. The company is known for making chairs out of environmentally sound materials, designed to last a lifetime. Most notably, Emeco is known for the 1006 “Navy Chair”, which was created for the US Navy in the 1940s to be able to withstand a torpedo blast. Today, the Emeco Navy Chair is still handmade in the same factory out of 80% recycled aluminum using the original 77 step process. It is recognized as a modern design icon. Made in America since 1944. Emeco was founded in 1944 in Hanover, Pennsylvania by Wilton C. Dinges, an engineer who started to supply the American Government with chairs, tables and lockers, utilizing the skills of local German immigrant craftsmen in Pennsylvania. Together with Alcoa experts, Dinges created the 1006 Navy Chair, made of recycled aluminum, using a unique 77-step process to create a seamless one-piece look. The Navy Chair was a chair so durable, it had an estimated life cycle of 150 years and far exceeded the Navy’s specifications. The end of the Cold War marked a significant decrease in the size of the U.S. military and, as a result, sales of the 1006 Navy Chair plummeted. In 1998, Gregg Buchbinder purchased Emeco and repositioned the company, making chairs for architects and designers. In 1999 Buchbinder began a working relationship with French designer Philippe Starck and together, they developed the first series of products specifically designed for hotels and restaurants.
