Maxal USA made high purity ER1100 aluminum tig rod 1/8" x36". The auction is for one 10lb box. The 1100 series welding rod is usually considered non-structural. It works great for filling applications, decorative stuff, rivets and hvac. Because it is almost pure aluminum it is especially resistant to chemical attack and looks really nice after anodizing.It also shines up super bright. If you do a lot of aluminum work this stuff, like 4047, is good to have around. the photo is of an open box that I have, but your wire will arrive in an unopened, sealed box. Purchased in 2012, so no shelf life issues.Also, the more you buy the better the price. If you buy 40 lb (4 boxes), price discount will be $120--that's $3 a lb for aluminum welding wire, with free shipping! From Maxal's website: 1100 filler metal has excellent corrosion characteristics, high melting temperature, moderate shrinkage rate, low fluidity, and good hot cracking sensitivity in most applications (hot cracking resistance is not as good as filler alloy 4043 in applications where both are recommended). Typical 1100 usage includes applications with electrical conductivity requirements & chemical storage facilities. Welds exhibit low welding smut and low discoloration. Designers of welded structures that require post weld forming/spinning or high ductility and toughness should consider the properties of this alloy before specifying 1100 which has low ratings in these areas. MAXAL MIG electrodes have precisely controlled wire diameter, cast and helix, high column strength and a surface condition that optimizes feedability. These features produce good commutation of electricity, reduced burn backs and produce a stable arc. The surface condition and alloy content control also produces a TIG product with excellent weldability and operator appeal.
