This is a Gamma Ray detector assembly removed from a portable neutron and gamma detector used by Nuclear Emergency Search Teams. It is extremely sensitive all solid state detector that uses a Cesium Iodide Scintillation Crystal bonded to a large area PIN photodiode detector with a CMOS based pre-amplifier. It has been tested with a gamma source and does respond far better than ANY Geiger tube to gamma rays. It could be used with a discriminator pulse height analyzer to detect and identify isotopes, and the tiny electrical draw would make it nice for a USB MCA detector build . Hook up info will be supplied, runs on 3.3-5V, a 3.7V lithium ion battery will power it nicely. I have the lithium iodide neutron detector and the other guts form the detectors in another listing if you want them. This item is pretty much impossible to find. I have lots of laser and other unique stuff for sale this week
