The rivet snaps make it easy to assemble in seconds, and the metal hardware adds to the durability. The dimensions quoted are for the box itself; the top adds another inch to the side measurements (allowing, I presume, for hanging files). I love clever ideas well-executed, and the Snap-N-Store file box is one of them: sturdy, easy to set up, room for hanging files, and real handles on the sides. Good for long-term storage or for use as a working file holder. I'm using them to organize and keep close at hand various underway writing projects. I'll probably buy more. I have the Ikea snap boxes and the Snap-n-Store are definitely nicer and more sturdy AND easier to put together (assemble in about 1 minute). They have a professional look. I used them at the bottom of my glass bookcase as I needed storage for papers and files. I'm not sure how study they are for frequent transport but, they are fine for moving in and out of shelving.
