FOSTER® BRIDGING MASTIC ENCAPSULANT-LOCKDOWN Foster®  Bridging Mastic is a quality, dual-purpose coating designed specifically for the asbestos abatement industry. Bridging Mastic is a field proven bridging encapsulant. Upon cure, 32-80 forms a tough, light colored, washable, abrasion resistant, elastomeric coating that economically abates the release of asbestos fibers from both conventional and spray applied asbestos-containing materials (ACM). Used with glass cloth, 32-80 is ideal for use over interior pipe covering and boiler lagging insulations. Bridging Mastic can be diluted a maximum of 1:1 (water to 32-80) to produce an extremely effective lockdown (postremoval residual encapsulant). Applied at 400 sq. ft./gal., 32-80 cures to form a visible film effectively abating the release of remaining fibers. BRIDGING MASTIC meets the requirements of NFPA 90A and 90B. Meets requirements for LEED IEQ 4.2 Low-Emitting Materials, Paints and Coatings. VOC: 41 g/l, less water and exempt solvents. LIMITATIONS Protect from freezing until dry. Not recommended for exterior use; select CP-211 instead. Do not store or apply below 40°F (4°C) or above 100°F (38°C). As a lockdown, do not apply to surfaces in excess of 170°F (93.3°C). Not suggested for use on floors. 04-08 Specialty Construction Brands, Inc. 1105 South Frontenac St ? DO NOT THIN. Dilute a maximum of 1:1 water: Foster®  32-80™ only when used as a lockdown. SITE PREPARATION As a minimum, follow all procedures outlined by Federal, State, and Local Authorities regulating asbestos abatement projects and the wastes generated therein. MATRIX EVALUATION Every ACM contemplated for encapsulation must be evaluated as to its inherent adhesive/cohesive strengths as well as its physical ability to receive an encapsulant. For further recommendations, contact your Foster representative. APPLICATIONS TO SPRAY APPLIED ASBESTOS CONTAINING MATERIALS - Using the recommended spray equipment, coat the matrix with Foster Bridging Mastic, holding the spray gun perpendicular to the surface of the ACM with the tip of the gun between 12 and 18 inches (30-46 cm) from the surface to be coated. Apply sufficient Foster 32-80 encapsulant to produce approximately one half the total recommended dry film thickness (minimum 25 mils wet). Allowing an open time of 8 hours (depending on the temperature and humidity conditions), a second application of encapsulant is made to the same area in the same manner, in an opposite pass direction from that used to apply the first coat. This procedure is continued until the total desired minimum dry film thickness is achieved. TO PIPE COVERING AND BOILER LAGGING SYSTEMS - Clean the surface of the pipe covering/boiler lagging using a rag or sponge thoroughly moistened with Foster®  Protektor®  Sealant 32-22™. (In the case of a larger structure, spray apply a mist coat.) Consider the wipe pad to be contaminated material and dispose of in an appropriate manner. Coat the ACM with Foster Bridging Mastic via brush/spray to a minimum thickness of 25-30 mils wet. Imbed into this wet film a reinforcing membrane, smoothing out any wrinkles and overlapping all edges and seams at least 2 inches (5cm). (The reinforcing membrane should have weave openings no smaller than 10x10.) While the coating is still wet, apply a second coat of Foster Bridging Mastic in the same manner as the first. The resultant cured film shall have a minimum thickness of 25 mils dry. IMPORTANT NOTE: The quantity of material required to properly encapsulate an ACM is a variable which is dependent upon the surface profile of the intended matrix. The estimated quantity required should be derived from a coverage test and equated to the larger area. The best means of insuring adequate coverage is to determine the amount of material that will be required for a specific area, segregate that quantity in the defined area, and apply until the segregated material is exhausted. As a lockdown. Dilute Foster 32-80 a maximum of 1:1 (one part water to one part Foster 32-80). Insure that the dilution process does not introduce foreign particles or contaminants that could impair the bond of the applied material or efficiency of the application equipment. Keep the diluted product stirred to prevent settling. APPROPRIATE SPRAY EQUIPMENT Any of the following GRACO pumps (or their equivalent) can be used to spray Foster Bridging Mastic.  Pumps: Ultra Max 1095 or 1595  Hose: 3/8 inch (9.53mm) inside diameter minimum up to 100 lineal feet 1/2" (30M). 1/2" (12.7mm) diameter minimum for length beyond 100 lineal feet.  Gun: GRACO Silver or Golden Hydramastic gun with Reverse-A-Clean tip assembly.  Tip Size: .021" to .031" (0.53 to 0.79mm). Fan size is usually 4 to 6.  Average Viscosity: 60,000 - 80,000 cps. CLEAN UP Use fresh water to clean equipment before product dries. Dry product may be removed with hot soapy water or strong solvents such as chlorinated solvent (non-flammable) or xylol (flammable).
