Note to ebay: This is not a hazardous material. These are pebbles, small rocks, not unlike those pesky ones that get stuck in your shoe and bug you for like five hours until you finally give in and go through the ordeal of removing it. This item is shipped in compliance with USPS Publication 52, and is a natural mineral specimen, as it is clearly defined in 49 CFR 173.426. Over 250,000 CPM if poured out as measured with a 44-9 pancake probe. This has not been grated and does contain both coarse and fine dust, so please take appropriate precaution like we would for all mineral dusts. I am recommending that you keep the bottle as is; because it makes a really cool gamma source even in the bottle and counts over 10,000 CPM on an Ludlum 44-9 probe equivalent for all measurements (900 volts, anti-saturation off, Bicron/Thermo standard dead time compensation unless counts are under 200,000/minute). You should see what this reads on my A-50 alpha scint probe!!! Even at attenuated voltage, it still pegs my million count meter with ease and peaks at over 2 million counts per minute. The relatively low gamma output (although it is easily detected with the CDV 700 probes) means minimal proximity hazard. I keep one of these and a small cs137 check source on my desk about three feet away and neither have even registered on my digital real time dosimeters unless it's out of the bottle or next to the dosimeter. Pour it out and it's an alpha and beta source galore. The other vials of ore I have found or sampled from eBay are not even close to this; this stuff is quite literally 100 times stronger (or more) of a radiation emitter than anything else I have seen in a vial or small container that is labeled as uranium ore. This is left from processing high grade mineral samples; and is considered mid grade natural ore. This product was originally intended for a few folks who were requesting samples with high surface area and extremely high alpha counts for alpha spectroscopy. It turns out to be popular all around. Enjoy!
