Glass-fronted case containing parts of Gingko (Maidenhair) Trees; Gingko biloba is the only living representative of the family Gingkoaceae.  This gymnosperm is considered a "living fossil" since no known individuals remain in the wild.  The tree has been extensively cultivated in western China and is now a common ornamental throughout the world.  Gingkos are dioecious, with male and female reproductive structures produced on separate trees.  Case includes a male polliniferous strobilus, a seed, a female stalked pairs of ovules, spur branches with leaves, and a sketch of the dichotomous (even forked) branching in leaves.  The case is 12 inches x 8 inches x 7/8 inch.  originally sold by Carolina Biological Supply
