Glycerin Jelly Mountant Use: As a semi-permanent, water based microscope slide mountant.  The specimen does not require dehydration prior to mounting.  Once the specimen is affixed to the slide or cover slip, a suitable drop of glycerin jelly is placed on the slide and the coverslip is attached.  I have had excellent results heating the slide and coverslip to about 60°C, adding a small bit of the solid jell which soon melts.  The coverslip is added and the slide is removed from the warmer.  A very inexpensive coffee mug warmer can be used. The refractive index of this specific batch is 1.43 in monochromatic light (Sodium "D") at 20° C measured by the Becke line method using Cargille solid reference standards. Glycerin jelly will dry out over time unless the coverslip is sealed with ringing cement or fingernail polish. Complete mounting instructions are included with the mountant. Specifications:  This mountant has been prepared with the highest care and pure reagents.  The ingredients are: ASTM Type II DI Lab Water Gelatin, USP Grade reagent Glycerol, ACS Grade reagent Thymol ACS Grade reagent (1% as a preservative) The mountant is packaged in sterile 30cc containers.  It should be kept refrigerated when not in use.  Widemouth containers used for ease of application. I am offering this close to cost, there is no discount for multiple orders unless you want more than ten...then contact me.  A ~30cc jar will do about 200-300+ slides depending on specimen thickness and coverslip area.
