The orchid is a flower of magnificence that brings a universal message of  love, beauty, wisdom, thoughtfulness, luxury & strength.    In China it signifies refinement, and innocence.  A pink orchid conveys pure affection.  The Cattalya orchid denotes mature charm, and is often used in corsages for  Mother's Day.  Today, the meanings of orchids are generally regarded as symbolic of rare  and delicate beauty.  Orchids are a long-lasting and particularly elegant type of flower,   which would make those receiving one as a gift feel especially pampered.   Their graceful appearance draws immediate attention,   and their reputation as an exotic and unusual flower evokes a sense of  refinement and innocence.  The orchid is a symbol of luxury, with a sense of magnificence and artful  splendour, with orchids representing rare and delicate beauty.   Some Interesting Facts about Orchids... Orchids have many associations with symbolic values. For example, the orchid is the City Flower of Shaoxing, China. Cattleya mossiae is the national Venezuelan flower, while Cattleya trianae is the national flower of Colombia. Vanda 'Miss Joaquim' is the national flower of Singapore. Orchids native to the Mediterranean are depicted on the Ara Pacis in Rome, until now the only known instance of orchids in ancient art, and the earliest in European art. The name comes from the Ancient Greek (orkhis), literally meaning "testicle", because of the shape of the root. Carl Linnaeus classified the family as Orchidaceae. Orchid was introduced in 1845 by John Lindley in School Botany, due to an incorrect attempt to extract the Latin stem (orchis) from Orchidaceae. The Greek myth of Orchis explains the origin of the plants. Orchis, the son of a nymph and a satyr, came upon a festival of Dionysus(Bacchus) in the forest. He drank too much, and attempted to rape a priestess of Dionysus. For his insult, he was torn apart by the Bacchanalians. His father prayed for him to be restored, but the gods instead changed him into a flower. These flowers were previously called Orchis, Satyrion (Satyrion feminina), or "ballockwort". Orchidaceae is a diverse and widespread family of flowering plants with blooms that are often colorful and often fragrant, commonly known as the orchid family. Along with the Asteraceae, they are one of the two largest families of flowering plants, with between 21,950 and 26,049 currently accepted species, found in 880 genera. Selecting which of the two families is larger is still under debate, as concrete numbers on such enormous families are constantly in flux. Regardless, the number of orchid species equals more than twice the number of bird species, and about four times the number of mammal species. The family also encompasses about 6–11% of all seed plants. The largest genera are Bulbophyllum (2,000 species), Epidendrum (1,500 species), Dendrobium (1,400 species) and Pleurothallis (1,000 species). The family also includes Vanilla (the genus of the vanilla plant), Orchis (type genus), and many commonly cultivated plants such as Phalaenopsis and Cattleya. Moreover, since the introduction of tropical species in the 19th century, horticulturists have produced more than 100,000 hybrids and cultivars. What is a Trinket Box ? A trinket box is also known by other terms such as jewel case or casket and has been used from the medieval times on the dressers. These are small boxes that are embellished on the top in a variety of designs and have a hollow space or concealment when opened. These small boxes are perfect to keep jewels and other trinkets. The adornments on the top of the trinket boxes vary according to the designers and clients whims and fancies. From gold to iron, all metals have been used to create trinket boxes. Other materials that have been used to make these jewel cases are wood, paper mache, stone, ivory and porcelain. Since the 17th century onwards, there has been a spurt in the production of trinket boxes since the Limoges Box was introduced in France. As it was manufactured by the King’s own kilns, it became a rage with the nobility. The spread of porcelain ware, art of enamelling and Art metal ware gave a further impetus to the popularity of trinket box manufacturing. Most popular trinket boxes have been classified as Art Metal wares and were created in cast metal and antimonial lead and later electroplated in silver, gold, copper and even ivory. In the late 19th century, trinket boxes were a necessity on the vanity cases and dressers of  women all over the world. From hand-crafted ivory boxes inlaid with jewels of the east to the delicate porcelain boxes of France, there was a rich variety available.  What is Poly resin ? Poly resin is a resin compound generally used for statues, figurines, and decorative furniture. It is a sturdy material that can be intricately moulded, allowing a great level of detail with consistent texture. Additives can be incorporated into the compound to enhance the material's strength, reduce its weight, add heat stability, decorative effects, and so on. Poly resin is also compatible with a large range of different finishes, including paint and metallic finishes, which is why many decorative pieces are made from this material. One form of poly resin often used is Alabastrite. It is a stone-based material, easy to sculpt, takes paint well, and has a similar appearance to porcelain and pottery.  What are Diamantes ?? A rhinestone, paste or diamante is a diamond simulant made from rock crystal, glass or acrylic. Originally, rhinestones were rock crystals gathered from the river Rhine, hence the name, although some were also found in areas like the Alps. The availability was greatly increased in the 18th century when the Alsatian jeweller Georg Friedrich Strass had the idea to imitate diamonds by coating the lower side of glass with metal powder. Hence, rhinestones are called strass in many European languages. Rhinestones can be used as imitations of diamonds, and some manufacturers even manage to reproduce the glistening effect real diamonds have in the sun. In 1955, the Aurora Borealis, a thin, vacuum-sputtered metallic coating applied to crystal stones to produce an iridescent effect, was introduced by Swarovski. Aurora Borealis tends to reflect whatever colour is worn near it, and it is named after the Aurora Borealis atmospheric phenomenon, also known as the "Northern Lights". Similar treatments are Aqua aura and "Flame aura".Typically, crystal rhinestones have been used on costumes, apparel and jewellery. Crystal rhinestones are produced mainly in Austria by Swarovski and in the Czech Republic by Preciosa and a few other glassworks in northern Bohemia. In the US, these are sometimes called Austrian Crystal. In the Spanish-speaking world they are called Cristal de Bohemia (Bohemian Crystal). The rhinestone-studded Nudie suit was invented by Nudie Cohn in the 1940s, an Americanization of the matador's suit of lights. Rhinestone material is often used as an alternative to sequin. Liberal use of rhinestones was associated with country music singers, as well as with singer Elvis Presley and pianist Liberace. In 1974 David Allan Coe released the album The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy and referred to himself as The Rhinestone Cowboy again in the 1977 song "Longhaired Redneck". In 1975 Glen Campbell had a top hit with the song "Rhinestone Cowboy", and became known as the "Rhinestone Cowboy". That song served as the basis for the 1984 movie Rhinestone, starring Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton. Gorillaz has also released a single by the name of "Rhinestone Eyes".
