The Hanna Instruments HI 98184 is a waterproof portable pH, oxygen reduction potential (ORP)/mV, ISE, and temperature meter with manual temperature compensation or Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC), five-point pH calibration, two-point ISE calibration, a multilevel LCD screen, a titanium pH electrode with internal temperature sensor, and electrode and calibration alerts. A pH meter is commonly used to measure the pH of substance such as water, food, beer, or wine in laboratory, industrial, and food applications. The multilevel backlit LCD screen simultaneously displays the measurement reading, temperature, and electrode status. A hold function freezes readings for recording. A good laboratory practice (GLP) key provides access to comprehensive GLP data and the log-on-demand feature holds up to 300 records. Data can be transferred to a computer with the HI 92000 software (not included) using the USB port (cable not included). This meter has manual temperature compensation and ATC from -20.0 to 120.0 degrees C (-4.0 to 248.0 degrees F). This meter has up to five-point pH calibration with seven standard pH buffers (1.68, 4.01, 6.86, 7.01, 9.18, 10.01, and 12.45) and five custom pH buffers to provide precise calibration range adjustment. The calibration slope is from 80 to 110 percent. The meter has up to two-point ISE calibration with six standard solutions (0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1000, and 10000ppm). The unit maintains a calibration history, monitors the pH electrode and buffers during calibration, and can provide an out-of-calibration-range alert. The meter comes with the HI 72911B titanium body amplified pH electrode with a built-in temperature sensor and Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) + phono connector. The electrode has a double-gel reference, a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) junction, a polymer electrolyte, a flat tip, withstands three bars maximum pressure and comes with a 1m (3.3') cable. The meter also measures ORP/mV when an ORP sensor (not included) is attached in place of the pH electrode. An Ingress Protection (IP) 67-rated housing protects against solid objects or liquids. The input impedance is 10 E 12 Ohms. The meter uses four 1.2V AA batteries (included) for up to 200 hours of continuous operation and can be set to turn off automatically after five, ten, 30, or 60 minutes of non-use to extend battery life. The dimensions are 226.5 x 95 x 52mm/8.9 x 3.75 x 2 inches (H x W x D) and the meter weighs 525g/1.2lb. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The HI 98184 portable meter also comes with buffer solution sachets and instructions. Specifications pH range -2.0 to 20.0, -2.00 to 20.00, or -2.000 to 20.000 ORP range + or - 2000mV ISE range From 1.00 x 10 E 3 to 1.00 x 10 E 5 ppm Temperature range -20.0 to 120.0 degrees C (-4.0 to 248.0 degrees F) pH resolution 0.1, 0.01, 0.001 ORP resolution 0.1mV ISE resolution 3 digits 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10 concentration Temperature resolution 0.1 degrees C (0.1 degrees F) pH accuracy + or –0.01, + or - 0.002 pH ORP accuracy + or – 0.2 mV ISE accuracy 0.5 percent of reading (monovalent ions), + or – 1 percent of reading (divalent ions) Temperature accuracy + or – 0.4 degrees C (0.8 degrees F) A pH meter, also called a sensor or tester, is a device used to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. A pH meter has either a portable or a benchtop body. Many portable meters are handheld devices. Some testers have an internal sensor, and may have a tip and body that fit inside of a container for measurement. A meter is commonly used in many different environments from laboratories to field research and manufacturing facilities. Researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists use a pH meter in aquaculture, agricultural, wine-making, and water-testing, and for scientific applications. Some pH meters may measure additional parameters such as dissolved oxygen (DO), conductivity (also called electro-conductivity or EC), temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, resistivity, or oxygen reduction potential (ORP)/mV. Hanna Instruments manufactures analytical instrumentation and supplies, including pH meters, electrodes, chemical reagents, and buffer solutions. The company, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Woonsocket, RI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001. What’s in the Box?
