This is Hickok's top of the line engineer's tube tester. It was designed to be used in the lab or plant for a more definitive test. It has some refinements over the Hickok 539 series such as a filtered DC grid-bias supply independent of the screen supply. This is a plus over the 539 series. Fitted to a nice sturdy aluminum case. It will test compactron tubes with the addition of the model CA4 or CA5 compactron adapter witch is not included in this sale, but is readily available on E-bay. Shipping weight 40 lbs. This machine has been completely re-furbished and tested. Its appearance is exceptional. The following is a list of items accomplished. 1. Replaced wafer type tube sockets with military ceramic sockets and retaining clamps. This includes replacing the steel tube socket bracket with a new gold anodized aluminum bracket 2. Replaced both selenium rectifiers with silicon diodes along with both wire wound power resistors to compensate for reduced voltage drop across the diodes vice selenium's. Replaced the diode board with sturdy military style board. 3. Replaced original component board that is attached to the filament transformer with a new redesigned fiberglass board with all new components. 4. All other capacitors in the unit have been replaced with the exception of mica and ceramic types witch were found to be in good condition. 5. New line cord and power switch. A large grommet has been installed through the wall of the accessories compartment to enable the line cord to be passed through the accessories compartment wall without having to disconnect the cord from the power switch. This enables easy removal of the chassis from the case, with the line cord attached, for servicing. 6. All internal steel brackets around the panel meters, rotary switch mounting bracket, and transformer supports have been re-plated with zinc chromate. 7. All front panel screws have been replaced with stainless steel with the exception of those screws holding the tube sockets to enhance appearance. Installed new red and clear military lens caps over line and shorts pilot lamps. 8. The case has been re-painted with all new hardware including new bumper feet, stainless steel front case latches, and a modified, more comfortable carry handle. 9. Replaced roll chart and clear plastic roll chart window 10. Set of accessories including: 1. New plate /grid cap lead, 2. extra type 81, NE51, & type 47 lamps. 3. Reference tube. 11. Full set of manuals including: A. RD Instruments operating instructions, B. Test data for Current, Obsolete, Foreign, & Subminiature tubes, plus CA4 and CA5 adapter instructions and tube test data. C. Supplementary Western Electric information on the unit's circuit design and maintenance procedure with a nice CLEAR and EASILY READABLE schematic.
