Use this Cyclone Separator to turn your shop vacuum into a high efficiency dust collection system. Molded of rugged plastic with integrated bosses to fasten to your dust receptacle. Drilling template, stainless steel screws, and hose clamps included. (Compare to Dust Commander DLX) A Cyclone Separator uses the suction of your shop vacuum to pull particles (dirt, sawdust, sand, hair, etc.) out before they reach your vacuum's bin and filter. This means your vacuum runs longer before emptying, and extended filter life. The rounded corners in this design - compared to the sharp corners in simpler separators - reduce the dead space in the cyclonic volute to increase efficiency & reduce suction loss. Second photo shows an example installation on a small Craftsman Shop Vacuum, using a 1.25 gallon plastic bucket with screw-on lid. I find that this works great: virtually everything vacuumed up collects in the bucket rather than in the shop vac. Construction and Assembly Recommendations: A bucket with screw-on lid will be much easier to open than a snap-on lid when it is time to empty. The large discharge port on the bottom can be located anywhere - it does not need to be at the center - and the receptacle does not need to be round. Consider where the lid's release latches are and where your shop vacuum will be located, so that your finished assembly is easy to use and to open up & empty out. Be VERY careful when cutting and drilling a plastic bucket lid - these are thin and will crack very easily! This example uses hot glue to seal the discharge port to the lid. The ports are not perfectly sized for the hose of the Craftsman shop vac in the photo; some custom adjustments will be required. The hose clamps are included to help with this.
