*** PLEASE NOTE ***  Although only slight!!...this particular piece of holly has a higher-than-usual mineral content level, therefore -- as you can see from the photos -- the grain pattern is darker and more noticeable than what normally is the case with holly (piece pictured is a sample only; actual piece may vary).  Although clear, we do not consider this piece to be "premium" holly, therefore it is priced considerably lower than our premium stock.  If you need blazing-white holly (i.e. our premium stock), please either see some of our other eBay listings or, for a better selection, please visit our web-site. American Holly (We have the world's largest selection of American Holly 1/2", 3/4", 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4 lumber, turning squares, pen blanks, dowels, thins/veneers, acoustic guitar sets etc., so please be sure to check our eBay store and web-site for our other offerings of Holly and many other hardwoods!) American holly is an excellent wood for turning, carving, inlay and is used in the making of fine furniture. In the past it was also valued for use as wood block engraving, umbrella handles, and the backs of brushes. When dyed black, holly resembles the much-sought-after African ebony wood. Therefore, holly is often used for the black keys on pianos and organs and for the pegs and fingerboards on violins. This listing is for ONE piece of kiln-dried 4/4 holly (surfaced - hit or miss)...measuring a solid 1" x 6" x 38".  As mentioned above, this piece is not considered premium holly, because of the SLIGHT darker grain lines caused by a higher-than-usual mineral content, however, some who have bought this type of holly from us in the past consider it to be extremely unique and rare holly and very worthwhile for many types of projects!  4/4 rough-sawn lumber like this will finish at 3/4".
