Up for auction is a vintage audio oscillator made by hp model 200AB. Unit powers on. No further testing and therefore this instrument is being sold AS-IS. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. The following information was taken from HEWLETT' PACKARD JOURNAL VOL. 4 No. 4 TECHNICAL INFORMATION FROM THE -hp- LABORATORIES PUBLISHED BY THE HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY, 395 PAGE MILL ROAD, PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA DECEMBER, 1952 SPECIFICATIONS -hp- MODEL 200AB AUDIO OSCILLATOR FREQUENCY RANGE: 20 cps to 40 kc in 4 bands. ACCURACY: Within 2% including calibration error and warm-up drift. OUTPUT: 24.5 volts maximum (1 watt into 600 ohms). LOAD IMPEDANCE: 600 or more ohms. INTERNAL IMPEDANCE: Approx. 75 ohms below 20 kc. DISTORTION: Not more than 1% when operated into loads of 600 or more ohms. NOISE: 75 db or more below maximum output. FREQUENCY RESPONSE: Within 1 db. LINE VOLTAGE STABILTY: Line voltage changes of ±10 volts cause less than 0.2% frequency change over most of the frequency range. POWER: Operates from nominal 115-volt, 50/60 cycle supply. An audio oscillator is an instrument that generates one pure tone or frequency at a time. Through the years, HP oscillators were used to design, produce and maintain telephones, stereos, radios and other audio equipment. The Model 200AB and its sister instrument, the Model 200CD, were introduced at the same time in 1952. These new oscillators represented a substantial increase in versatility over previous ones. For example, the frequency range of the 200AB (20 cps to 40 kc) was such that it replaced two of the older HP oscillators, Models 200A and 200B, which were discontinued. This was accomplished without an increase in price. In addition to advances in electrical design, the cabinetry of the new oscillator was redesigned. The cabinet width was reduced to save bench space, while the appearance was designed to be more pleasing and to aid in operation. One of the improvements was a large, 6-inch tuning dial. The 200AB was used for amplifier testing, as a bridge voltage source, for testing transmitter modulator response, modulating signal generators, syncing pulse generators, making loudspeaker resonance tests and powering mechanical systems.
