You asked and now we can deliver. You are buying an Inficon Vortex Dual compressor recovery unit that boasts a full 1 H/P motor twice the speed of an Appion. This unit is a great balance between the Appion the CPS TR21 and safe but yet effective Promax RG6000 but blows them all away. With our retro fit kit installed we have found that this unit surpasses anything we have ever used while recovering butane or refrigerant. While the unit is not designed for butane and the factory makes no claims to be used for such applications. Over the years of retrofitting Appions and other units, we have learned some very important factors. We have applied our knowledge to the new release of the Inficon Vortex and have been very pleased with its results. We have discovered while the Appion can take 30-45 seconds to build full pressure for a leak check, the vortex does it in 18-24 seconds. While the fan on the Appion is a plastic, brittle, greasy, unreliable excuse for a fan, the vortex has a sturdy mechanical fan that we have not seen fail on any levels compared to the Appion. The head assembly on the Appion is deep and allows for more air space ultimately giving your valves room to bend, stick, smash, and be cycled through or freeze up your valve plate. The vortex has the opposite. The piston of the Appion is screwed into a male stud that has been known to back out, the vortex has a solid state shaft. The head of the Appion piston requires an oring and a seal that is able to have gaps causing leaks and is ultimately the hardest part of a repair. The vortex has a simple star screw that allows you to unscrew the piston seal, and replace it with ease, also this seal is a cup so there is a lot less potential for gaps or leaks. The Appion has inaccurate spinning copper gauges, the Vortex has accurate adjustable gauges. The Appion has no purge features, the vortex has a purge feature that will allow you to purge the system when your run is complete and also be used for cleaning processes. The comparisons could go on for ever and the vortex wins every time . So what's bad about the vortex? The price is a little stiffer since our kit is installed but other than that the only real down fall is there is no way to close the high side off to allow for pump up without using a manifold or control valve connected to the unit. This is by far the best unit we have seen on the market for refrigeration extractions and while it's not designed for butane we have not found a better alternative to a butane extractor.
