Name badges, magnets, license plates, license plate frames, picture frames, bag tags, key chains, dog tags to name a few. You can also purchase whole or cut sheet stock. There are different colored coated metals (aluminium and brass being the popular) and although these can be used for plaques, nameplates etc. full color or photographic images will require the metal to be white for the best results. 1. Prepare your artwork and transfer print with consideration to the size and shape of your sheet or cut sheet metal. 2. It is good practice to print the artwork slightly larger than the finished product ( 1/8 ” or 3mm works well). When placing the metal onto the transfer paper prior to pressing it is much easier to align the product to the image. If the image is not full bleed (i.e. a motif in the center on a white background) then it is advisable to draw a boundary slightly larger than the finished product with the motif in the correct position within the boundary.  3. You can use the same method of attaching the print to the metal as the plastic production with the heat resistant tape but as metal is a great conductor of heat I always place the print face up on the heat press and position the metal face-down on the print (this only works if the bottom platen is horizontal). Positioning is easy due to the image being slightly larger than the metal. 4. Spread a Teflon sheet (or white paper) on the bottom of the press. 5. Lay the metal face down (transfer, face-up) on the heat press. 6. Cover with Teflon sheet (or white paper). ). This avoids any ink gassing onto the top platen of the press (which will then transfer onto any following items). 7. Press the items for the correct time. This will depend on the product but small items are usually 45 seconds and larger pieces (like the one shown here) could be 60 seconds. 8. When the pressing time is up, carefully, (very hot) lift the metal from the transfer (without sliding it) as smoothly and quickly as possible (this is to avoid creating a ‘shadow’ image). 9. Allow to cool on a clean surface.  METAL (Unisub) 60 seconds 400° F -  204° 40 psi (medium) Use blow-out paper. Remove plastic coating before pressing.
