This circuit boosts the voltage from a flat AA battery, using up the last of the power in the battery, which normally would be unusable. The completed torch is quite bright, comparable to the LED Torch built into a smartphone. Complete build instructions can be found here Theory of operation is here You need a soldering iron, solder, and wire cutters to be able to build this project. It takes me about 30 minutes to build one of the kits, maybe it'll take you a bit longer if you havn't done it before. These items are located in the Czech Republic (I am an expat), so postage takes upto a week to the UK.  Although please note, most of the items I have sent to the UK recently have arived within 2 to 3 days. The Circuit can take upto 5.5V input, and the LED's switch off at 1-1.1V I don't get much feedback on delivery times for the rest of the world, but delivery times in Europe should be similar to UK delivery times, outside Europe could take longer.
