L3 Loral TerraCom Portable High-Capacity Microwave Transceiver TCM-621 Transmitter and Receiver This L3 Communications Loral Terracom  TCM-621 is designed to serve as a high-capacity, temporary service or emergency restoration radio. It will operate in an outdoor environment with no protection from the elements, and can be set up for operation in a matter of  minutes.  Digital interfaces on the front panel of the radio terminal can be changed in the field as needed by the operator.   This TCM-621 can be transported without worry of damage due to its heritage TerraCom rugged mechanical design. Any unique user interface with data rates between 19 Mbps and 210 Mbps can be accommodated.  The radio modem offers programmable modulation waveforms (QPSK and 16 QAM to 128 QAM) with adaptive equalization and variable FEC rates. Customers desiring to utilize external third-party modem technology may interface to the radio via input and output 70 MHz IF ports Offer RF Branching - TX/RX Frequency Separation and  configurations of up to 3+0 can be accommodated on a single antenna.   Built-in tunable transmit and receive pre-select filters and circulators are used to allow multiple transmitters and receivers to be combined onto the antenna system. The RF filter and LO tuning is fully automatic and controlled by the built-in microprocessor from the radio front panel keypad. The radio also provides 2 full duplex asynchronous RS-232 user service channels and a voice orderwire channel. Loral Terracom L3 Telemetry West TCM 620 Series Microwave Transmitter Features: Transmission Frequency Range:  1.74 GHz to 19.79 GHz Controlling Agency: FCC Parts 21, 74, 78 and 94 Transmission Capacity (bit/sec):  1.54M to 44.736M Number of Voice Channels: 24 or 48 on multiplexing technique Modulation Technique: 4PAM or 3LPR Occupied Bandwith:  1.7 GHz to 19.7 GHz Bits per hertz:  1.6 with 4PAM; 1.1 with 3LPR System Gain: N/A Receiver Sensitivity:  -76 dBm at 10.6 BER for18 GHz RADIO SYSTEM GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW The TCM-620 Series Transmitter is a portable microwave radio providing direct line-of-sight microwave transmission.  The radio can be installed as part of a permanent facility, or as part of a mobile unit capable of rapid deployment for emergency operation. The frequency range is a variable depending upon the RF module selected for use, and can range from 1.74 GHz to 19.79 GHz. With the appropriate baseband module, the radio can transmit Frequency Division Multiplexed (FDM) voice channels, data channels, color television channels with frequency-modulated subcarriers, or radar video and control channels. In video and message applications, the carrier is directly modulated with the baseband signal.  In data applications, the baseband modules contain modems which are used to generate and receive FM compatible signals. The LORAL TERRACOM TCM-621 MICROWAVE TRANSMITTER provides front-panel tuning of the output RF carrier frequency.  It also provides direct-reading frquency-selector switches which are mounted on the AFC front panel.  On the RF module front panel, when the green AFC LOCK LED is lit, the AFC frequency-selector switches indicate the frequency at which the transmitter is operating. The LORAL TERRACOM TCM-621 MICROVE RECEIVER provides front-panel dial-tuning of the local oscillator as well as direct-reading frequency-selector switches mounted on the AFC front panel.  On the RF module front panel, when the green AFC LOCK LED is lit, the AFC frequency selector switches on the AFC module indicator the receive frequency of the receiver.  Two amber LEDs are also provided on the receiver module front panel to indicate which direction to turn the LO tuning dial. Frequency stability is maintained by a phase-locked loop that compares the frequency of a reference crystal oscillator within the AFC module to a counted-down frequency received from the VCO within the RF module.  These two frequencies are compared by a phase detector and integrated into an AFC voltage. Alarm LEDs for BITE indications are provided A front panel meter monitors principal radio parameters and all power supply voltages, except for an unregulated voltage of -28 VDC. A remote monitor connector, which allows a user to monitor all transmitter parameters at a remote location, is provided on the rear connector panel of the transmitter. The transmitter also accepts a service channel input which is used by maintenance personnel for troubleshooting or alignment. MODULAR CONSTRUCTION The radio enclosure contains six removable modules, with the exception of the RF module (which requires removal of the RF connector), all modules can be removed by loosening two spring-loaded captive screws. Modules are interchangeable between radios:  TCM-620 TX modules to other TCM-620 TX radios. A failed radio may be brought on line quickly by swapping VERSATILE Radios may be rack mounted, or mounted on portable tripods. Frequency bands can be changed by swapping RF modules. Power supply flexibility: AC or DC operation. The radio can be used in a number of configuarations. When properly configured with the appropriate baseband modules, a single radio is capable: ? Transmission of up to a maximum of 2,400 frequency division multiplexed voice channels (MESSAGE BASEBAND configuration), depending upon modules installed. ?Transmission of various data rates from 1.544 Mb/s to 45.0 Mb/s (DATA configuration). ? Transmission of a single color television channel with frequency-modulated subcarriers (VIDEO configuration). ? Transmission of radar video and control information (WIDEBAND VIDEO configuration). ? 70 MHz demodulation activity. WEATHERPROOF Radios may be used outdoors. Enclosures are weather resistant and can be used in a variety of climates. The radio case is seamless, and the front and rear panel seal tightly to it against rubber gaskets.
