It is hollow - the bottom has about a 3" hole. The plastic is about 1/8" thick. It is a really durable plastic. So durable and sturdy in fact, you can cut them if needed. I had to do some modifying with a band-saw to make some masks fit. Even after sawing they are still sturdy and tuff. These work so well that I will only use these to display now & in the future!
