Master Setco Precision Dovetail Slide Model M44LW.MOD.200   For sale- a Master Setco Precision Dovetail Slide Model M44LW.MOD.200.  I’m not sure what all the model number tells you there, obviously it is part of the Setco M series slides, with the M4 being the single axis version and the M44 being the X-Y version.  More specs and info are available here on the Setco website.  And I happen to have the Precision Slide Certificate that came with this piece, I will try to add a picture of that shortly to the listing.   The good news here is that I don’t think this thing has ever been used, it was still secured in place in the original shipping crate which is how it will ship to you.  The bad news (PAY ATTENTION HERE) is that it was new in 2007 and shipped to a facility in close proximity to several bodies of salt water.  So it has had the past nine years to get nice and rusty.  In addition, when they finally sent it to surplus it was being kept in a roofed space only enclosed on one side.  I don’t think it spent a lot of quality time there but I do know that somehow the fire alarm/sprinkler system was activated so it go a nice cold shower.  Maybe wash off some of the salt air.  I don’t think that is what produced the rust but it might have been.   So I spent quite awhile sanding the surfaces that matter off with a very fine grit sandpaper, #320 that was already worn out and discarded from an industrial polishing machine.  Just enough abrasive left to take the rust off where it needed to come off.  As you can see in the pictures the only place I took the time to sand that wasn’t potentially load bearing was the top mounting plate.  The top slide of the two was a bit rustier, and that actually had some rust on the worm screw as I think you can see, and that I have not tried to sand.  I have applied a light machine oil as I went along to that and the other sanded surfaces to make it easier to work with and to prevent rust from coming back.  It is now housed in a warehouse many miles from any salt water, so hopefully when you get it it will still be as pictured.   So again, the good news is that I don’t think it should have any wear from actual use.  I had to work to pry loose the pieces of 2x4 that held it in place in the crate, they  were in with nails instead of screws.  And it still had the keys to keep the handwheels from turning on the spindles taped in place with masking tape as pictured.  I have replaced that with electrical tape to make it easier to peel off.  The bad news is that between the rust and my sanding it may no longer meet factory spec.  But with great difficulty (the SOB is VERY heavy) I was able to get it up off the bottom of the crate and get the handwheels on and go back and forth repeatedly with both axis.  It does not get stuck anywhere in the 10 inches of travel and particularly if I had a better angle on it would not be that hard to crank.  I am guessing the rust remaining on the upper ballscrew puts up some additional resistance but with continued use and proper lubrication that will dissipate with time or maybe you will feel energetic enough to try to sand some of that off.   So there you have it, warts and all.  Still lot of cosmetic rust on the thing and I obviously have no tested it with a load on top.  Sold as is, as described, and NO warranty is offered.  However, IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you may return it.  Returns are ONLY allowed on Buy It Now Purchases.  Accepted Best Offers are strictly an as is sale, no returns allowed.  Return would be for a refund of the purchase price, not including shipping costs, which may be substantial.   Just so that we are clear on that, this is an item that has not been thoroughly tested.  As such it may work fine or it may have problems, so any purchase entails a certain degree of risk.  If you Buy It Now your risk is limited to the shipping costs both ways.  If you submit an offer you do so knowing that you cannot return it.  In either case it is up to you to decide whether the risk level is acceptable to you, and if not you need to pass on this particular item.   Please check out my other listings for more interesting lab, test, and optical equipment.  Check back often!   Sold as is, as described, as pictured.  Potential buyers are asked to please make sure you have read the listing carefully, and understand what you are buying.  Ebay’s condition codes for used items, which I am now required to select from, might imply a degree of functionality that my limited time, knowledge, and facilities do not allow me to ascertain.  If the functional condition of the item is known it will be stated as such in the listing.  Unless a warranty is specifically offered returns are not accepted regardless of any implied functionality.   Shipping will be motor freight on a pallet unless you would like to come pick it up.  Given the difficulty in handling it I would say the slide assembly weighs 250 pounds if it weighs an ounce.  I would estimate the shipping weight at around 300 pounds with the crate.  I would estimate the freight cost for that at between $200 and $400 to the east and west coast respectively.  Residential deliveries, deliveries that require liftgates, deliveries to the boonies, and deliveries to schools or universities will all be more because it takes longer for the carrier to get the job done.  Shipping will be via Old Dominion Freight Lines, which has done a consistently good job getting my shipments where they are going without roughing them up.  I will be happy to quote you for the shipment, but I need to know the zip code, residential or commercial, and whether a lift gate will be required.   If you would prefer to use another carrier that’s fine .  It will be shipping from a warehouse with a loading dock in zip code 23093, but I do not live there!  I require pickup confirmation the day before and your carrier must provide an emailed printable copy of the Bill of Lading so that there is paperwork available for the driver to sign when he gets there.  The BOL should have all the info filled out when I receive it, blank copies are unacceptable.   I can ship this to Canada via Old Dominion, but they do not offer customs brokerage services, so you would need to have your own customs broker lined up before it shipped.
