The EMZ-10 differs from the EMZ-5 by having a longer working distance when used without an auxiliary lens 110mm/4-3/8" for EMZ-10 vs 93mm/3-5/8" for the EMZ-5.  This increase working distance is 17mm or about 3/4", a relatively small distance.  The EMZ-10 is supplied with a protective lens instead of a working distance increasing auxiliary lens that is supplied standard with the EMZ-5 that we sell.  You can select from a variety of auxiliary lens that fit both scopes to change the working distance as you see fit.  See below for information on auxiliary lenses.  Working distance is important to consider in setting up your scope to your working environment.  Will you be working on top of your bench or will you set up your bench to work lower near the catch tray?  How tall are you?  How tall is your bench?  How tall is your chair?  How much room do you need for your hands and tools?  As a general rule, choose a EMZ 10 if you wish to work on-top of your bench. Choose an EMZ-5 if you wish to work lower near your catch tray.   Each Meiji EMZ-10 Microscope Kit Complete with GRS Acrobat Stands includes: Meiji EMZ-10 Stereo Zoom Microscope 7x-45x Pair of 10x eyepieces and rubber eye guards Glendo/GRS Acrobat stand with head rest 0x Protective Lens Meiji MA531 (129.409B) Does not change EMZ-10 standard 110mm (4-3/8") working distance.   This kit includes the 129.930  Fluorescent Ring Light 110V for comfortable cool light viewing. Auxiliary lenses increase working distance as they decrease maximum magnification. Since most jewelry work is done at lower magnifications, the loss of the higher powers while using an auxiliary lens is usually not missed.  Choosing an auxiliary lens is all about finding a comfortable working position while allowing for adequate space for your tools and work.  Many factors need to be considered including scope stand used, bench and chair height, your height and where you position your work holding device; either on top of your bench or closer to the catch tray for example.  Use the information below to compare how magnification and working distances change with the various auxiliary lenses available for Meiji microscopes when using standard 10X eyepieces.   Auxiliary Lens/Protective Lens Data for use on an EMZ5 and EMZ-10 using 10X Eyepieces: EMZ-5 Data in Black/ EMZ-10 Data in Red   No lens or 0x Protective Lens Meiji MA531 (129.409B) Working Distance: 93mm/110mm Field of View: 32mm-5.1mm/Same Magnification: 7X-45X/Same   .3x Auxiliary Lens Meiji MA530 (129.411) Working Distance: 251mm/326mm Field of View: 109mm-17mm/Same Magnification: 2.1X-13.5X/Same .44x Auxiliary Lens Meiji MA525 (129.410) Working Distance: 171mm/247mm Field of View: 74.5mm-11.5mm/Same Magnification: 3.08X-19.8X/Same .5 Auxiliary Lens Meiji MA517 (129.412) Working Distance: 148mm/194mm Field of View: 65.7mm-10.2mm/Same Magnification: 3.5X-22.5X/Same .75 Auxiliary Lens Meiji MA526 (129.413) Working Distance: 97mm/127mm Field of View: 43.8mm-6.8mm/Same Magnification: 5.25X-33.75X/Same
