Today we have to offer for sale a rather rare precision fixed square made by mitutoyo. I called Mitutoyo because I could not find what model this was and I think he was able to steer me in the right direction. He said by the measurements that it was probably a model 916-408. The one thing I thought was really unique about this square is the thickness of the bar or blade which is 5/16" wide. Most that I have seen are an 1/8 inch thick. Also from what the Mitutoyo representative said on the phone is that all of these have hardened edges. This square was made in Brazil which was also verified to be correct by the rep. The square was last calibrated in 1998 and unfortunately the instructor engraved his number on it. I did put a small 6 in precision square under this and could not see any light pass through so it is still as square as the day it was sold. I purchased this square from a machinist and he told me that it has sat in his garage since probably 1998 when it was last calibrated. All edges are nice and sharp and not all worn and rounded off. This is truly an awesome tool. $800 new! I also must say that although I love starrett, this square is a lot nicer than the equivalent starrett square which my father owns. Please see my pictures and contact me with any questions. Thank you! Lot 434
