This is 4pi geometry scintillator just waiting to go in to an obsessive hobbyists wilt spectrometer setup! NaI is hygroscopic material and must be kept in a dry (meaning 0% or slightly above humidity lab environments.) my favorite way to work with these when I am no a lab is to cover it with silicon or silicon grease. That will block the water from adsorbing, and will stop the crystal from melting itself! This is designed for a one inch PMT. Why is this so awesome? By using samples in little bottles (see the bottle black cap in one of the pictures? You get true 4pi detection of gamma radiation, as it is not being measured half PI like a pancake probe. It is being measured in every direction! The bottles can contain a gamma source which would be barely counting on a pancake probe, and show a clear spike on a multichannel spec. Don't pick at the blemishes on top. Nothing good could come out of it. Wait until you receive it to to the precise measurements. I would say 1 1/4 to 1/2. It has been tested and works like it's new. This is a solid optical grade crystal. You aren't going to see these for sale often. There are 3 shallow chips on the side of the well; these are inevitable and don't affect the function.
