Bulk Flame Test Chemical Kit With Six Chemicals This set of six chemicals provides ample amounts of each chemical for repeated flame color demonstrations. Includes a 12.5g roll of magnesium ribbon plus 100g of each chemical. • Strontium Chloride • Sodium Carbonate • Cupric Sulfate • Potassium Chloride • Cupric Chloride • Magnesium Ribbon The volume of the chemicals in this flame test kit permits repetitive use, classroom or otherwise. When burned, the metal or metalloid ion in each chemical imparts a characteristic color to the flame. Thus, this kit can be used to demonstrate the “flame test” method of identifying minerals. The chemicals are packaged in 100 gram poly bottles with the magnesium ribbon, approx. 30 feet. To perform the test, place a powdered sample of the chemical (see list below) on a nichrome wire, as in an inoculating loop, and place in the hottest portion of the flame. Note that the wire should be well cleaned by dipping in alcohol between samples so no dust etc. interferes with the true color in the test sample flame. Stainless steel spatulas can also be used. SAFETY: Wear chemical splash goggles, a lab chemical apron and youths should perform under supervision.
