Why pay more & take additional risks on used w/o warranty on your industrial equipment?  n the 1990?s Sargent discontinued the 1250 and 1251?s, but they came out the Sargent 281 Door Closers. The 281?s will work in place of the 1250/1251?s without having to re drill holes, or change the templating (closer placement on the door). At first they had two models the 280 and the 281. The 280 was a door closer that worked larger exterior doors and had more power in the spring. The 281 was for interior doors and was ADA compatible, due to the smaller spring. In the last few years they have modified the closer and now is it just known as the 281, which will cover all doors, and can be adjusted to be ADA compliant. The hole spacing on the 281 is 1? x 10-3/8? or 2-3/8? x 8? on center. This door closer is sent out Tri-Packed, which means it will work on the push, pull or top jamb, and is non handed.  Adjustable spring power allows 281 closers a size range of 1 through 6. They are adjusted to size 3 before leaving the factory  One door closer body for all applications, non-handed  ADA requirements are met with the 281 model at all applications (except track)  Standard pressure relief valves for both opening and closing cycles protect the closer seals and all hardware from excessive force  Heavy duty mounting bracket for easy installation of full size iron closer  Retrofits existing Sargent 250 and 1250 Series Closer installations  High impact non-corrosive plastic covers standard  (Optional metal cover available)  Cover secured by machine screws  1-1/2" diameter piston for superior door control  All weather fluid allows closer to operate effectively in extreme heat and cold without readjustment
