The interwoven braided packing seal is made of pure flexible graphite yarn for a low coefficient of friction in both low and high temperatures, and resistance to harsh chemicals and high temperatures. Flexible graphite transfers heat away from the shaft or stem to prevent glazing and scoring, reducing leak-off in pumps, and extending the packing and sleeve life. It is resilient and conforms to surfaces when compressed to create a tight seal. The polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) dispersion adds lubricity to the packing to improve sealing and further reduce the risk of wear. A passive corrosion inhibitor in the blend prevents stem pitting in valves. This packing seal is compatible with media in the pH range of 0-14, except fuming nitric, aqua regia, and molten alkali metals. It has a maximum pressure limit of 250 pounds per square inch (psi) in pumps and 950 psi in valves. It operates across a wide temperature range from -400 to 700 degrees F (-240 to 371 degrees C).
