The Philips MS400/BU/PS 278168 light bulb is a 400 Watt ED37 clear metal halide lamp with a Color Rendering Index of 62. Featuring an E-39 mogul base, it has a color temperature of 4100k and a rated life of up to 20,000 hours. The MOL of the bulb is 11.5 inches with a diameter of 4.6 inches. The ANSI Code for this product is M155/M128/M135/S and it has a Base-Up +/- 15 Degrees Burn Position. This light bulb offers various benefits. It can increase maintained light output by up to 25% compared to standard metal halide bulbs. Additionally, it has increased efficacy, up to 120 lpw, allowing for a low total cost of ownership. It also has up to 50% faster warm-up and restrike times and up to 50% increased life when compared to switch start metal halide bulbs for 175W and 250W versions. This light bulb is ideal for general lighting, downlighting, and flood lighting applications. However, it is crucial to be aware that these lamps can cause serious skin burn and eye inflammation from short wave ultraviolet radiation if the outer envelope of the lamp is broken or punctured. Therefore, it is important not to use them in areas where people will remain for more than a few minutes unless adequate shielding or other safety precautions are taken. Certain lamps that will automatically extinguish when the outer envelope is broken or punctured are commercially available. This light bulb complies with FDA radiation performance standards.
