Are you tired of carrying bag after bag of chicken feed, corn, goat ration out to the barn?                                        Now you don't have too!!! Do the chickens get into the bags and break them open?                                        Not anymore!!!! Can't afford a grain bin?                                        Now you can!!!! Do you already get bulk feed, but are tired of leaning over the barrel to reach the bottom with a sore back?  Or when 8 mo pregnant???? (That last one is for my spouse!!!!) Lets face it, working with animals is enough work, even when working with them is something you truly love and enjoy.  My spouse grew rather large carrying the baby, and the point came when she could not reach bend over to get feed out of the 50 gallon barrels where we stored the feed.  Realizing this was a really big problem, I looked into the prices of various feed storage bins used on farms, all were so expensive I could not ever afford them.  WHO CAN PAY $1000s for a grain bin??? We were already saving money by bringing empty plastic barrels to the feed store and having them filled with our own recipe a ton at a time.  However, now we have the feed store deliver directly to our barn for a $25 charge!  (Think about it, no more driving to the feed store to buy feed, no more lugging heavy bags, no more leaning over to dig out that last bit of feed, and no more animals breaking open bags when they inevitably escape and raid the feed room!!!)   We have devised a simple sliding door to attach to virtually any kind of container.   All you do is cut the hole in the side of the container with a jigsaw, and the door holds in the grain.  YOu place a bucket under the door, raise it to allow the feed to flow into the bucket, the wider open, the faster it flows, then, you pick up the bucket and feed the animals!! We have attached these doors to 250 gallon, 7 feet tall water storage containers, plastic barrels (see photo), and the large IBC totes (see photo) frequently found in classifieds adds. (in the case of IBC totes, you may have to cut out a bar or two from their frame depending on what kind of metal cage they are in.   This is our own money, time, and back saving patent pending invention.    This includes: 1) One 7 inch by 11 inch sliding vinyl door with handle attached (style of handle may vary).  2) Two ~22 inch slide rails on which the door slides up and down. 3) Six deck screws to attach the rails to continer on which you want to add the door.  YOU will need to supply  1) a cutting tool to cut the hole through your selected container 2) the container in which you plan to store your feed.  YOU PROVIDE YOUR OWN BARREL OR OTHER CONTAINER IN WHICH TO STORE FEED!!!!!!!!!!!! I found that placing the barrels on a stack of cinder blocks (8" x 16") with 2-3 blocks on the bottom row and 2-3 blocks on the top row provides a nice platform on which to place your barrel, strapped to the side of the barn for stability.  However, there are any number of ways to lift the barrel or other container to allow grain to flow into the bucket.   Remember us next time you are lugging those feed bags, or bending down to the bottom of your barrel, or trying to clean up the feed spilt by the animals when they escaped!!! ;)  Then buy one!
