Propylene Glycol FG Inhibited. Propylene glycol inhibits freezing so it is used in antifreeze and airplane deicing as well as other applications where freezing needs to be inhibited. It is also a common ingredient in solvents, as well as enamels and varnishes. It is a major contributor to protecting finished surfaces against wear and tear, for example varnished floors. Propylene glycol is also a commonly used and safe food additive for food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and tobacco products. The plastic industry depends on it for production of products that require endurance such as marine construction laminates, electrical, pipes and much more. Propylene glycol is a stabilizer in liquid soaps and dishwashing products, enabling them to function correctly in any temperature. It is used in cosmetics as a moisturizer and in some fragrances as a disperser. The concentration of propylene glycol in food varies from 0.001% up to 15% and according to the FDA our bodies metabolize it so it poses no toxicity. Another common use is in the production of polyester fibers for the textile industry.
