(48' X 125') and 1,000 sq. ft. (48' X 250') rolls Both the lightweight and the heavyweight radiant barrier foils have the same reflectivity quality This page represents the sale of the Double D SILVER 1000 sq ft roll.  Please see the other listings for the additional products sold What Is Radiant Barrier? Radiant barrier insulation is a reflective insulation system that offers a permanent way to reduce energy costs. Radiant barrier insulation systems reflect radiant heat energy instead of trying to absorb it. A pure aluminumized film radiant barrier reflective insulation is unaffected by humidity and will continue to perform at a consistent level no matter how humid it may be. A radiant barrier insulation system is a layer of metalized film facing an airspace and is installed in the envelope of a building.   Stapled Under Roof Rafters Staple Double D Silver or Platinum from the ridge board down to the eave or horizontally across the rafters, whichever is easier. If ridge venting is used, staple right to the ridge board. If other roof and/or gable venting is used, leave a 2" opening below the ridge board and above the floor joists as shown to prevent trapping heated air. Never block any venting with Double D products. Over Crawlspaces or Unfinished Basements Staple Double D Silver or Platinum along the bottom of the floor joists. Tape all joints with appropriate tape for a vapor barrier. In Northern climates be aware that the winter temperature in the basement or crawlspace will drop considerably. Over Purlins and Girts Staple or tape to the ridge board of post-frame or steel buildings and pull down to the eave. The extra strength of Double D products easily withstands heavy use. Overlap Double D Silver or Platinum  2" and fasten roof and side panels over it. Under Trusses Double D Silver or Platinum can span up to eight feet unsupported. Use heavy-duty staples every 8" - 10", or tapping screws every 12" to 16". The strength of Double D will support 3" to 5" of fiberglass insulation laid on top, if desired. Space fasteners every 6" when supporting added insulation. Over Joists Under Roof Sheathing Lay Double D Silver or Platinum  over rafters allowing it to “drape” several inches. Staple as necessary to hold in place until roof sheathing is fastened down. The air space created by draping will reflect downward heat intrusion, while the bottom side will stop heat transfer with its low emittance surface. The same effect occurs, but in reverse, in the winter months to stop heat loss. Double D SILVER - RADIANT BARRIER For residential retrofit, particularly in the attic laying over existing insulation, and some OEM applications. Available in 500 and 1,000 sq. ft. rolls. Only available in perforated 4' widths. Double D Silver is two-sided reflective aluminized polyester film with reinforced scrim inside, designed to reflect radiant heat no matter what the season. Choose Double D Silver to retrofit an existing structure. It can be stapled to the underside of the roof rafters in an attic (photos 1 & 2), or laid directly over mass insulation (photos 3 & 4) for a noticeable increase in energy savings and increased comfort level. Always check local building codes before installing radiant barrier or reflective insulation. Check the area you are insulating and make any needed repairs before you begin. Any bare or worn wiring should be replaced or repaired by a licensed electrician before you begin installing radiant barrier or reflective insulation. Metalized film coming into contact with a “live” uninsulated wire can lead to serious injury or even death. Radiant barrier and reflective insulation are designed to work best when an air space of at least 1/2" to 3/4" can be used. Unroll the radiant barrier or reflective insulation as you work, cutting it to suitable lengths with scissors or a utility knife. Do not work in areas such as attics when temperatures are too hot. Consult your physician for more information. Make sure work areas are well ventilated and well lighted. Always use eye protection when operating staple guns. Use caution and common sense when using a stapling gun. Do not staple through wires! Even if the wires are properly insulated, stapling a radiant barrier or reflective insulation to a wire may cause the radiant barrier or reflective insulation itself to act as a “live” wire, which could lead to serious injury or even death. Be careful when working with large pieces of radiant barrier or reflective insulation on windy days. When working with radiant barrier or reflective insulation on bright sunny days, it is best to wear sun glasses. Taping Tips NEVER USE DUCT TAPE. Only use an approved reflective aluminum tape. Always apply tape to a clean, dry surface. Apply tape evenly over all seams. Use a flat edged object when applying and add pressure against the tape to achieve the best adhesion. When applying to an area where moisture or condensation is a concern, use an acrylic based adhesive tape for best results. RETURNS ACCEPTED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF RECEIPT, IF NOT USED AND IN ORIGINAL PACKAGING. CUSTOMER MUST PAY FOR SHIPPING COST TO RETURN.
