Internet Research: https://americansurvivor.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/survival-papers_SP04-9-Radiological-Monitors.pdf A survey meter is an instrument that, using an ionization (ion) chamber, measures the rate of radiation. It is commonly compared to the speedometer of a car. Of the survey meters, the only ones you should look for is the CD V-710 medium-range survey meter, and CDV-715, CD V-717, and CD V-720 high range meters. There is only one medium-range survey meter, the CD V-710 You should not pay more than $35-$40 for an uncalibrated CD V-710 Model 4 or 5. The only reason for this higher price is because of the collector value of the meter. For a calibrated CD V-710, you should only pay about $130-$150. https://www.orau.org/ptp/Library/cdv/jordan710-4.pdf Operating and Maintenance Instructions https://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/civildefense/cdv710.htm The following statement comes from a June 1959 revision of a 1955 Civil Defense Technical Bulletin:  "To provide a capability for meeting the various requirements of civil defense operations and training, OCDM has developed the following types of instruments:  . . .  "A medium-range gamma survey meter to meet the principal radiological monitoring requirements for civil defense operations following an attack (CD V-710)."  The accompanying photo in the bulletin appears to be the Jordan Model 4 Estimated Date of First Production:    Model 4   ca. 1957 http://civildefensemuseum.org/southrad/radmeters/cdv710/inmod4.htm Inside the Jordan CD V-710 Model 4 #RadiationDetectionSurveyMeter #RadiationDetector #RadiationDetectorSurveyMeter #RadiationSurveyMeter #RadiationMeter #CDV710 #Model4 #CivilDefense #Surplus #Radiation #Detection #SurveyMeter #CDV710Model4 #CivilDefenseSurplusAuction #CD #Meter #CDV #Jordan #JordanElectronics
