The meter used by Western Electric, RCA, GE, and Westinghouse were black-faced with white numerals and pointers to make it easier for the engineer to see the results presented. The Weston meter tested with an adjustable DC voltage supply with a current limiting resistor and is operational. It is rated at 100uA for full-scale deflection. The entire package includes the mounting bezel and associated mounting hardware, making it easier for the engineer to install and use the combination for precise monitoring of RF drive signals. Next to the last picture shows one of the most critical elements of the combination - a view of the interior of the connector for the Weston meter. It appears to be a simple phoenelic disc supporting the center conductor contact, but in reality, it is a ceramic insulated capacitor, typically measuring 500pF, for the purpose of bypassing any exteraneous RF to ground that could interfere with an accurate meter response. If the meter shows erratic RF power output indications, the bypass capacitor is one of the first components the engineer would examine. These bypass capacitors can be challenging to locate and install into the connector shell. The Bendix model 517.012, which is an RCA part number, and the Weston 100uA full scale meter are an exceptional combination for monitoring the input RF drive signal to an RCA BTF-40 FM transmitter. A precise impedance match with the RF signal source, commonly referred to as the exciter, was necessary for the input to the BTF-40. Therefore, the Bendix directional coupler was in line with a rejection load of 50 Ohms as a part of the RF divider connected to the Intermediate Power Amplifier (IPA). The Bendix directional coupler is capable of passing RF voltage of up to Twelve (12) Watts, which is rectified by a small RF signal diode - 1N218 in this case. It is then directed to the Weston meter to indicate the power level of the detected signal.
