Do I need to use another components so it can do the job? The infrared diodes can be used for cutting, graving and/or burning some materials, however, not all materials work. For example, you can try them on thin wood, foam (dark foam or black surfaces work great) and some other plastic materials. But for metals and other heavy stuff, we recommend you use more powerful lasers, such as the CO2 lasers since these will work much better for some projects and you can cut almost everything as well. Some additional components will help the diodes work in optimal conditions: Glass LENS are necessary so it can focus properly to a specific point. Three layers glass LENS are the optimal lens. Also it is necessary to mount the diode into a metallic laser housing to dissipate heat and then, connect the laser diode to a laser driver for current adjustment and finally, use a power source to power it on. Whence are these laser diodes? Most of the products we received are from Minnesota, US manufactures; they need to pass some quality tests in our labs before they can be ready for use. Is the glass lens included in the TO-5 laser diode? These infrared laser diodes does not include the glass lens to focus the beam, however, if you need a basic set (for a prototype for example), please feel free to take a look at our additional items (the current eBay item number for the housing is 261345419738). This housing will dissipate heat and already came with the glass lens, will suit the TO-5 diodes and also includes the accessories. Why does it say "high"? What does it mean? This refers to a high capacity laser diode, "high capacity" or "high burning" means that the infrared laser diode has 500mW or more. "Low" capacity diodes (like 100mW for example) usually can be used for low-power laser pointer or for other type of tools that requires less power. What type of Spot is for the 2-3 pin laser diodes? All these diodes are "linear multi-mode", that means that the laser diode doesn't emit a circular spot, it's lineal.
